Damascus [Syria], September 9: The first parliamentary election in Syria since the overthrow of former long-time ruler Bashar Al Assad is expected to take place from September 25 to 27.
However Mohammed Al Ahmad, head of the Supreme Election Commission, told DPA that due to ongoing changes in Syria, there may be "changes in the dates." "The final electoral lists will be published on September 18, according to Al Ahmad.
Voting is scheduled for the following week. Previously, the election was scheduled for September 15 to 20. No reason was given for the date switch.
It is unclear when elections in the southern province of Sweida, a Druze majority region, and the north-eastern provinces of Hasakah and Raqqa, which are under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by Kurdish militias, will take place.
Relations between the SDF and the Syrian government are tense. (DPA)
