Moscow [Russia], September 12: Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko has released 52 political prisoners and expelled them from the country following negotiations with the United States, the president of Lithuania said on Thursday.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said the prisoners were taken across the border to his country.
"No man left behind! 52 prisoners safely crossed the Lithuanian border from Belarus today, leaving behind barbed wire, barred windows and constant fear," he wrote on X.
Reports from Minsk said that 14 of those released are foreign nationals, including citizens of Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Germany, France and Britain. Nauseda credited US President Donald Trump for making the release happen.
